Recipe story
A simply delicious chocolate cake - A good friend made this for her birthday and has kindly shared her recipe - YUM. If you are not a fan of apricot jam, you can use cream in the middle too.
The Ingredients
- For the cake
- 150g Flour
- 150g Butter
- 150g caster Sugar
- 150g Dark Chocolate (melted)
- 5 eggs
- 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
- Salt
- For the Middle
- Apricot Jam
- For the 'icing'
- 150g Dark Chocolate
- 1 Teaspoon Butter
- 3/4 Tablespoon Milk
The Method
1. Using an electric Mixer, mix together the egg yolks and sugar until creamy
2. Add the softened butter
3. Add the melted chocolate
4. Add the flour
5. Add the baking powder and a pinch of salt
6. Finally gently fold in the beaten egg whites with a spatula.
7. Bake at 180degress for 45 to 50 minutes.
8. Once cooled, slice in half and then spread the jam in the middle. Place the top piece back on the cake.1
9. Heat the 'icing' chocolate over water with the butter and milk. Once completely melted, pour over the cakeIf you are not a fan of jam you can use cream in the centre.
