Call The Midwife

by Jennifer Worth

I loved this book. It's an insight into the world of the London Docklands in the 1950's - the resilience of some amazing women who bore more than 10 children, the amazing sense of community, the poverty, the disease, the brothels. This is the world that Jennifer entered into when she became a midwife at 22 yrs. Babies born in slum conditions, no running water. I never imagined that life was like that. A real eye-opener and amazing to hear the work of these midwives and the conditions that they worked in and hear about these incredible women during pregnancy and childbirth. An easy read and fascinating.

This is an excellent book and real eye opener, not for those who are easily shocked though!
